Phil Creighton’s suitability for the editor of The Journalist

Phil Creighton has vast experience in the disciplines needed for The Journalist’s editor.

Across Phil’s career, he has had strong production journalist experience, and has created or redesigned newspapers and magazines from the bottom up.

Software used includes Quark, InDesign, Photoshop and Affinity Publisher.

Production in the 21st century includes websites and social media, and Phil has set up WordPress sites from scratch, built Facebook and Twitter feeds, created TikTok videos and stared blankly at the appeal of Instagram.

Part of his experiences at The Baptist Times included helping with circulation and subscription queries, while launching The Wokingham Paper and Reading Today meant he worked with Smiths News, newsagents, and supermarkets to get the newspapers on sale in shops.

Phil’s experience in the hyperlocal sector means he has had to be a jack of all trades, and had sold advertising, managed budgets, made endless cups of tea and been the face of the titles, often appearing on national and local radio either championing the papers or the area in which they served.

He is well-known across the Reading and Wokingham areas, and had experience of standing up to politicians for the benefit of readers.

For the hyperlocal sector, Phil has taken part in numerous sessions with government ministers and other stakeholders in a bid to increase their representation in the UK’s media landscape.
